March 17, International Sleep Day

Sleeping is vital for us. During normal and healthy sleep, unique restorative processes take place in our body, without which we cannot feel energetic and compensate for the fullness of our strength. The idea of celebrating "Sleep Day" has existed for a long time. European countries have long appreciated the importance and benefits of events dedicated to the "International Sleep Day", which is sometimes held on the third Friday of March, or more precisely - on the Friday of the second full week of March. According to medical statistics in the world, more than 50% of the entire population suffers from one or another sleep disorder, and over the past 100 years, the total time spent sleeping at night has decreased by 20%.

The most common sleep disorders are insomnia, a more correct and scientific name is insomnia. 11-35% of the adult population of different countries of the world suffer from this disease. Among the main causes of insomnia are momentary or permanent stress and neuroses, which are filled with our everyday life. People over 50 and women suffer from insomnia more often. Lawyers and workers in the field of education, culture and art are potentially in the risk group for the manifestation of this disease. Insomnia most often lies in wait for its victims in the fall, this is due to the decrease in daylight hours, and in the spring, when various disorders of the nervous system and mood are exacerbated. According to statistics, insomnia is more often suffered by people with low consumer capabilities. Insomnia entails a decrease in concentration, irritability and a decrease in mood, affects the decrease in immunity in general.

The old truth says, "sleep is the best medicine", and the results of a study conducted by a group of American scientists from Stanford University have once again confirmed the validity of this popular truth, a good night's sleep is a necessary condition for the body's immune defense to show its abilities in the best possible way .

In 2023, International Sleep Day falls on March 17.
