До речі, Земля - єдина планета Сонячної системи, названа не в честь якого-небудь язичницького божества. Все це і багато іншого, більш детально, можна дізнатися в планетарії. Це свято, Міжнародний день планетаріїв, має „європейське” коріння, вперше воно було проведене в Італії у 1990 році з ініціативи Асоціації італійських планетаріїв. Статус міжнародного День планетаріїв набув у 1994 році, коли його підтримали французькі „храми астрономії”. А вже через рік це свято почали відзначати ще в шести країнах Європи: Бельгії, Чехії, Словенії, Польщі, Україні, Росії. Мета проведення свята – знайомство суспільства з діяльністю планетаріїв і пропаганда астрономічних знань. Місто проведення – міські планетарії. До свого професійного свята багато планетаріїв намагаються приурочити прем’єри нових програм, організувати зустрічі з цікавими людьми, різноманітні конкурси і вікторини. Дата святкування випадає на найближчу неділю до дня весняного рівнодення.
В 2023 році Міжнародний день планетаріїв припадає на 19 березня.

This holiday, the International Day of Planetariums, has "European" roots, it was first held in Italy in 1990 at the initiative of the Association of Italian Planetariums. Planetarium Day gained international status in 1994, when it was supported by the French "temples of astronomy". A year later, this holiday began to be celebrated in six European countries: Belgium, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Poland, Ukraine, and Russia.
The purpose of the holiday is to acquaint society with the activities of planetariums and to promote astronomical knowledge. The venue is city planetariums.
Before their professional holiday, many planetariums try to time the premieres of new programs, organize meetings with interesting people, various contests and quizzes.
The date of the celebration falls on the nearest Sunday before the vernal equinox.
In 2023, International Planetarium Day falls on March 19.
